Skye to Neptune’s Staircase Banavie Scotland

Day52/Scotland 29
Travelled:211 Km
Stay: Banavie- carpark next to Neptune Staircase N56.84541 W5.09711
Visited: Neptune Staircase Banavie

The wind and the rain was our constant companion throughout the night and day. We were relieved to get up, have our morning coffee and drive out to the main road. We continued on driving through the rain and could just imagine the scenery in the low cloud.

The overnight rain has benefited this waterfall.

As we left the island there was alot more traffic than we have been used to. The roads were marginally better and two lane. We stopped a few times along the way to have breakfast and lunch.

Over the bridge and causeway to the mainland.

Eileen Donna Castle. Where 3 lochs meet, dating from the 13th century.

We passed lochs and mountains.

We arrived in Banavie, near Fort William, in mid afternoon.

We parked up and went to have a look at the Neptune Staircase- 8 locks on the Caledonian Canal, the biggest in Britain.

We were lucky to see the steam train to Mallaig before the bridge was swung around to allow the pleasure boats passage into the sea via Loch Linnhe.

After a few photos opportunities we ventured back to Bluey to watch the rabbits play in the playground (too wet for children) and groove to a bit of music...the beer and wine helped, as the rain kept on! Ah the Scottish summer....
