It’s amazing how blue sky and sunshine brings out the colours of the landscape. This was the view outside our window this morning.

It was our last day on Harris/Lewis and so we set off early to explore South Harris. We began with a drive out to Luskentyre. The carpark was nearly full and once we had breakfast and walked out to the beach we understood the appeal. A beautiful white sandy beach that stretched on forever, brilliant blue clear waters and magnificent views.

After an enjoyable stroll we gave a lift to a young American backpacker back to the main road and continued our exploration south.

Interesting design.

Along the way we passed several more lovely beaches until we reached Rodel.
We stopped here to have a look at St.Clements Church.

We then drove along the east coast of Harris which offered a very different landscape - very rocky and undulating and with lots of lochs (ocean and freshwater). The road was narrow and there were not many places to stop.

We eventually made it back to Tarbert where we did some shopping (Harris Tweed hat) and got £20 of fuel.

Having a bit more time before our ferry departure, we decided to drive out to the end of the road in Scalpay.

We were hoping to walk out to the lighthouse but there was no available parking left and we were going to run out of time. So we had some lunch and a cuppa, then slowly made our way back to Tarbert. We lined up and bordered the ferry just after 4pm.

We had a smooth crossing with views of Harris and Skye, arriving in Uig just after 6pm.

The Lighthouse we didn’t get to walk to.

Uig.

We drove 15mins north and stopped in the first P4N spot along the way at the Iron Age tunnel with 2 other motorhomes (Dutch and Spanish).

After dinner we explored the site and then went for a walk. Unfortunately the tunnel is full of water.

Later we watched the setting sun.
