Travelled:137km
Stay:Drumbeg- free car park at view point N58.2444 W5.2047
Visited: Rispond Beach, Smoo Cave, Kinlochbervie, Drumberg
The sun was gone, replaced by low clouds and rain for the day, which was such a pity as we drove through some amazing scenery.
Saw plenty of fish farms along the way
And rolly polly hills in the clouds
We stopped to have breakfast at Rispond Bay with its beautiful white sandy beach.
Our next stop was Smoo Cave, where we had to don our wet weather gear to walk down to have a squiz. It’s quite a large limestone cave that has a sink hole where the river falls 20m into the cave.
In Durness we topped up with £20 of fuel just to make sure we make it to Ullapool ( at £1.41 we actually didn’t get many litres). We then drove along Kyle of Durness and were surprised at how far low tide receded.
We continued cross country on the A838 along badly maintained roads with lots of passing places, some better than others until we turned off to drive to Kinlochbervie.
A town based around its very active commercial fishing port. We were very appreciative of the service point offered to motorhomes and made our donation as requested to the Spar shop. We then stopped at the War Memorial lookout just out of town to have lunch.
There are a few of these signs around which we respect and move on...
Retracing our drive back out to the main road and then just after Kylesku we turned off once again onto the B869 to Drumbeg.
Interesting!
This road was even bumpier and narrower but that was to be expected of a B road. The scenery made it worthwhile.
We see telephone boxes in the most obscure places..
However Mark had had enough by the time we reached the town, especially that we had such a nice place to stop.
The view before the fog came in
