Laons to Coucy le Chateaue

Travelled:33km
Visited:Laon, Coucy le Chateaue
Stay:Coucy le Chateaue : aire €5 included electricty, water and a WC
It was another chilly sunny morning and we spent it walking through the Ardon Gate into the walled hilltop town of Laon.

Its Notre Dame Cathedral was built in Gothic style and is said to have inspired many others including Paris'.

Along the narrow cobblestoned streets we went from one end, where the Abbey church of St Martin, the Soissons Gate and the leaning tower of Lady Eve are,

to the other end where the Citidel is. If you were coming to visit from the lower town, you can take the worlds only driver-less, cable car which departs from the train station.

Our next destination was not far away and a very nice aire which, for a fee of €5 included electricty, water and a WC. It has views of the ruined castle (bombed by the Germans in WWII) and to where we went for a walk around later in the afternoon.

It is part of a fortified hilltop town which is much smaller than Laon. Now the goats are the keepers of the castle which, by the way, can be visited with an audioguide.  On the way back to Bluey we got tempted at the boulangerie a bought a couple of F.A cakes for desert....
