St Goar Germany

Travelled:14km
Visited:St Goar
Stay:St Goar - free parking area, no services GPS N50°9.2220' E7°42.5988'

It was a very foggy start to the day.

By the time we drove the short distance downstream to St Goar, the sun was shinning. After having breakfast we decided to stay the day to explore the town and walk up to the ruined castle, Burg Rheinfels. It was once the mightiest fortress on the Rhine. We spent a couple of hours exploring the battlements along with subterranean tunnels and galleries. There was also a small museum explaining the castles' history since 1245. We climbed up the clock tower and took in the view of the Rhine River.

My knight in shinning armour!

After descending back down to the village we enjoyed a nice cold beer, before sitting on the river bank watching barges and ferries go about their business.

Later in the evening we moved off our on street parking spot to go down to a parking area at the end of town hoping it will offer a quieter night.
