To Burra Gorge South Australia

It was another day of driving (410km) as we made our way out of Victoria and into South Australia. After leaving Lake Hutton we did a quick pit stop at Bunnings in Mildura. Further along the Sturt Highway, we had a cuppa whilst watching the amazing bird life on Lake Cullulleraine.

Just after we crossed the South Australian border, we had to open up Buster’s fridge and cupboards at the quarantine check point, making sure we had no fruit on board, protecting their fruit industry from fruit fly.

There was some silo art in Paringa, near Renmark, depicting local people and the history of the area.
We then crossed over the suspension bridge, built in 1927, and only 1 of 4 still spanning the Murray River today. It is still in operation and is scheduled to lift twice a day.
We found Renmark to have a tropical holiday vibe with the palm trees lining the streets and a lovely foreshore.
It is a popular area for river cruising. We read an interesting fact about the Murray River - it is the world’s 3rd largest navigable river (nearly 2000km of its 2500km) after the Amazon and the Nile rivers.

We nipped into Bamera and filled up with cheap fuel again at United (55l/282km ‎ = 19.504 L/100 km) we think that’s not too bad economy for Buster.

In Morgan we watched the Murray River head south as we continued in a Northwest direction to Burra Gorge/Worlds End.

We have been to this free camp a couple of times before (2011, 2021). The river gums are spectacular with lots of interesting shapes. We enjoyed a couple of strolls, ate BBQ steak for dinner and called it a day..
