This Wednesday morning we got back on the main drag, the Goldfields Highway, driving 102km to Gwalia, through Leonora and onto our overnight spot at Malcolm Dam (just over 14km out of Leonora.
Even tho we had visited Gwalia in 2021, we decided to take another look. We arrived at 10am just as the cafe opened in Hoover House. It was named after Herbert Hoover (31st USA president). Even tho he only worked here for serveral months, he had designed the building.
We had a look around the free museum and its various exhibits.
It was fascinating to see a visual (via the video) of the scale of the underground part of the mine. They plan to get to a depth 2.6km by 2031.
This time we decided to head out of town to stay the night at Malcolm Dam. We managed to get a great spot looking over the water.
