Day 78 Germany 2
Travelled: 194km to Rottweil and Bad Urach then staying in Hulben at a free motorhome parking area (48.5261, 9.4124)After a peaceful night’s sleep we set off early through the vineyards.
We found a parking right next to the medieval centre of Rottweil. It is the oldest town in the Baden-Württemberg area and it is the location that gives its name to the Rottweiler dog (possibly from the Roman days). It has been able to preserve its late medieval character since it’s reconstruction during the 17th century. Specifically the colourful buildings with their motifs adorning the bay windows. With the walking map from the tourist office we explored the sites.
The main church of the town was impressive inside and out.
The Black Gate got its name because it leads out to the Black Forest. It has been used as a watch tower and prison.
This corner house is one of the most original in the town with its 45° angled facade.
We admired the beautiful baroque interior of Protestant church.
And also a chapel part of another church under renovation.Peaking over the roofs of the old town we could see the top of Testturm which is a 232 m high tower that tests elevator solutions for the future. It has Germany’s highest viewing platform that was unfortunately closed today. Our next destination was Bad Urach about 1.5 hours away. Once again with a map we ventured through the streets to admire the many half-timbered houses.
