Family visit Montluel France

Days 60-62/ France 45-47
Travelled: 72km via Saint Sorlin to Montluel. Stayed with family and visited Lyon.

We began the day with a brief subterranean tunnel exploration. From what we understand it was built to move water from one side of the hill to the other and also acted as a reservoir. It was first mentioned in 1650. We spotted a few small stalactites.

We had a walk around the quaint village of Saint Sorlin en Bugey. It is nestled between the cliffs and the Rhône.

We admired the view of the fertile valley from the church at the top of the village.
We then had Blueys brakes looked at Norauto in Meximieux. Apparently they are ok.

While we waited for our clothes to wash we did a bit of shopping. So handy these laundromats.
Then off to my cousins, Isabelle and Tatou, for the weekend. It was wonderful to catch up with them after 4 years. Once again we enjoyed delicious food and drinks together.
Aussies still cannot beat the frenchies…
Belotte..

On Sunday we strolled around Lyon. It’s such a lovely city and even though we have been here before, it’s always great to go back again. We even saw things we haven’t seen before! The old town is a favourite. We had a look inside St John Cathedral.
Got to see the 14th C astronomic clock.

We walked through a few of the traboules (passageways between streets that run through one or more buildings with hidden galleries and inner courtyards).
We crossed both the Saône and Rhône rivers.
We admired the fountains and some of the beautiful buildings.

We enjoyed a meal in one of the many restaurants here called “bouchons” that serve authentic local specialties (mainly offal style which we didn’t partake). Duck and chicken were our selections.
The toilettes…
