Gorges de Fier France

Day 63/France 48
Travelled: 171km to the Fier Gorge walk (€5.60 pp) then to stay at parking in Cons Sainte Colombe

We said our good byes and then did some shopping and all the things we need to do to spend a few days watching the Tour de France.Along the way we stopped near Ruffleux to have lunch.

Just close to Annecy (visited twice before) we went to the Fier Gorges (suggestion from Tatou and Isabelle). The parking is free but there is an entrance fee of €5.60 pp. The 252m footbridges that are about 20m high were originally built in 1868. As we strolled in between the cliffs we admired their ingenuity and the lovely surrounding.

Rock gazers before us have deciphered shapes of animals and faces.

The flood levels were depicted on a huge sign and when the river rises so does the water flow up to 500 cubic square meters per second. On the other end of the gorge is the ‘sea of rocks’, a labyrinth of fissured limestone creating many natural canals the water flows through until it continues on its way.

Then after the busy weekend we searched for a quiet place to sleep which we got in Cons Sainte Colombe in the school carpark all on our own.
