Day 14, France
Travelled: 131km to Port Louis Citadelle and along the Cote Sauvage Quiberon Visited: Port Louis Citadelle €8pp
We enjoyed an early morning walk along the coast at Point Trevignon before we set off on some more adventures.
Didn’t realise that snails grew on trees On our way to Port Louis, we stopped at a Leroy Merlin to buy some more plumbing supplies to fix Blueys leaky pipes. Then into Leclerc for some food and fuel (cheapest so far €1.71)
Port Louis’ main attraction is the Citadelle, commissioned by Louis XIII in 1637. We paid €8 each with audio guide.
There was a very interesting exhibition on the rescue boats, which began due to the huge amount of deaths due to shipwrecks and storms.
The other exhibit was about the Compagnie des Indes which originally set out from Port Louis, that prospered thanks to mainly the spice trade but also fabrics and porcelain.
Unfortunately the slave trade also began.
The Quiberon peninsula has a rugged coast line on the west (also known as the Savage Coast) and sandy beaches to the east. Unfortunately it is not motorhome friendly with lots of parking restrictions. However we did manage to stop along the way and take in the view, although the weather was not inviting for a prolonged stay.
We drove through Quiberon which was a typical and popular seaside resort town with lots of apartments.
Mark took the opportunity to fit the new pipes.
Unfortunately the rainy weather prevented us from wondering over to the beach… maybe tomorrow morning. But we did rnjoy our desert…got to keep our fruit intake up!
