Stay: 13km out of Sauda, rest area on R520, view of fjord. 59.5730 6.2909
We travelled down the R13 along the Sorfjorden to Odda where we filled up on cheapest fuel so far (11.77nok/litre).
We then stopped at the twin cascades of Latefoss waterfall. The spray showered the road, which we experienced first hand, getting wet in the process, as we walked across the old stone-vault bridge.
In Roldal we had a look at the old stave church built between 1200-1250.
From here we took the 520 as part of the Ryfylke National Tourist Route and we're not disappointed in the beautiful scenery...views of the fjord, snow patches on the rocky mountains and lakes. Mark says it's the best so far! It's a pity the rain had started up again.
Having reached the summit we descended down towards Sauda. Along the way we visited the old zinc mining area at Allmannajuvet Gorge. Once again the construction of the toilets, cafe and info centre was uniquely designed reflecting mining work office buildings (of today rather than back in the late 1800's when the mine was operating).
We then drove through the mining town of Sauda and stopped to admire the Svandalfossen falls.
As it was beer o'clock time we decided to stop at the next decent spot, enjoying our quota for the day!
Below is the view on a sunny day :)
