Glaciers, lakes and waterfalls

Travelled: 198km along the E15 to Sogndal, R5 to Skei, E39 to Moskog and R13 Gaularfjell
Stay: Holmevatmet Lake along Gaularfjell National Route 13 - picnic area, bins, lovely view 61.3357 6.4005

This morning we continued on the E15 to Sogndal and then took the E5 through lots of tunnels until we reached the picnic stop (61.48111, 6.74491) for Boyabreen.

This is a glacier which is part of the Jostedalsbreen - the largest glacier in Continental Europe, covering 486 sq km. It was just a short 350m walk to the base of the glacier and a small lake. There was also a cafe and souvenir shop.

As it was still early we decided to continue on and at Skei we turned off onto the E39 to Moskog and then the R13 from where we started the Gaularfjell National Tourist route. There was lots of beautiful scenery of lakes and waterfalls.

We stopped to have a closer look at Likholefossen which had a flexible steel bridge over the waterfalls.

We also went for a stroll along the boardwalk which is part of a 25km path called Fossestien. A little further along the road we spotted this terrific little picnic area with a beautiful view of the lake and yet another waterfall and decided that this was it for the day.
