Preikestolen - Pulpit Rock

We Travelled: 27km to Preikestolen-Pulpit Rock - parking fee 200nok
Stay: Oanes - free parking near ferry terminal 58.9103 6.0778

Wow, what a day! Definitely one off the 'bucket list'. We woke up early and headed up to the parking area for the start of the walk to Pulpit Rock. For those in a Motorhome there were a couple of freebie spots (58.99983, 6.10242) after the campground (although there was a no camping signs) and we are sure it would have been quieter than staying on the main road as we did last night. But these spots were still 4km  for the start of the walk. We arrived at the carpark before 7am and went through the boom gates. There were already cars and Motorhomes parked here even though the sign said no overnight camping. We set off on a beautiful sunny day, walking up and down the stone steps laid by the Sherpas.

Through forest and plateaus with lakes.

Spider webs.

Also amazing views of Stravanger.

Our final ascent brought us to the famous Pulpit Rock. We took numerous photos!

There's Mark!

There's Mireille!

View from the Rock of the fjord.

We then ventured above to get a different view which actually gave us a better prospective of the rock and Lysefjord.

we then went to the left...

As we left we went out on another section which gave us a view of the side of the rock. It seemed so insignificant.

We walked back to Bluey against the human tide of people from buses.

As we drove out we were amazed that the lower carpark was also nearly full. We were happy to have started out early. As it is a Norwegian icon it is to be expected. We ventured down the road to Oanes and stopped at a lovely spot just before the ferry. After researching our next route we decided to stay the rest of the day and begin a fresh tomorrow.

A bridge to the otherside!
