Stockholm 2

Stay: Stockholm (as per last night ) mixed parking  120sek/24hr 59.3138 18.0521

Stockholm is a lovely, vibrant city with plenty to see. Today we decided to go to the Royal Palace and bought the ticket for 180sek each which also included the church.

Once again we got there before the doors opened at 9 and we were virtually the only ones visiting the Royal Apartments.

The Royal Throne...

At 10am we watched the changing of the guard (mini version, the major event is at 12:15pm).

We then went to see the beautiful jewelled crowns in The Treasury - no photos allowed. Next was the Tre Kronor Museum which was in the basements explaining the history of of the previous buildings (fort/palace) that had been built on the site. The guide down there was very informative and ended up giving us a private tour with great information on the history of the old castle as well as Stockholm.
Then it was off to have a look at Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities which was a couple of halls lined with Roman style statues.

The Royal Armoury was next on the list (Ticket not required as it is free).  It had memorabilia spanning 500 years from armoury to Royal children's clothing on one floor and the Royal carriages on another floor below.

The Royal Craddle...

You know it gets cold here when they even have a Royal Sleigh...

By the time we finished our tour we realised it was time for the changing of the guards parade. We managed to get a brief view of them coming up the street but missed out on a spot in the Center court. Can't win them all.

So we ventured over to the Riddarholmen church (the last item on our ticket), which has been the Royal burial site since 1290. The last to be 'buried' here in crypts was in 1950.

Feeling like we had information overload, we decided to stroll around to the City Hall to have a closer look but it could only be visited with a guided tour.

We stopped to have a look at St.Clara

Gotta love those huge organs..just amazing.

We returned to meandered through Gamla Stan, the Old Town, glimpsing some well known spots before stopping for a well earned beer.

The German Church.
Again a different interior
And a very golden organ.
Then it was back to Bluey to rest the weary legs and start planning the next leg of our journey south.
