Beaune France

Travelled: 61km
Stay: Beaune- aire free parking, € services N47°01.046' E4°50.191' /47.01771, 4.83679

Walked to the ruins of the Autun Roman amphitheatre, which is said to have been the biggest of its time and around part of the lake. We then drove to have a look at the remains of the Roman Temple of Janus.

Our next stop was in Nolay, which had an impressive covered market with solid wooden pillars and a roof made of paving stones. After a stroll through the streets we set off for Beaune.

We found a spot in the aire in Beaune and went into the walled city. We enjoyed visiting the interesting Hotel Dieu Hospice, which was a hospital for the poor established in 1443. It is a very impressive building with a beautiful coloured glazed tiled roof. The rest of the day we wandered through the streets, shops and wine caves. Oh and the church of course!
