The next morning we continued our drive south through Limmen National Park, NT.
The road is rough in places but overall not too bad.
We stop to have a look at Lomareium Lagoon. Unfortunately we see no wildlife but it’s pretty with the Lillie’s flowering at the moment.
75km later we turn off to have a look at the Towns River camp ground ($20pn). The area has recently been burnt out but we make our way to the boat ramp area and decided that it was a nice place to stay with a great view over the river. Unfortunately the wind was pretty gusty, blowing dust over us most of the afternoon. It died down in the evening as we watched the sunset… then the mozzies were out.. so we went in.
Again it’s a great fishing spot, but as we don’t fish, we drive out the next morning.
Our destination is Butterfly Falls. It’s the only place you can safely swim in the whole park. It’s only a short stroll from the campground to the waterhole at the base of the falls. It’s very pretty but as the falls had stopped running, the waterhole had begun to get stagnant.. no swimming for us.
The road conditions were varied, we even got Buster up jumping with unexpected pot holes hiding in the bull dust.
We arrived in Borroloola mid afternoon. It is a small isolated township near the Gulf of Carpentaria area, 50 km from the sea, on the McArthur River. It has become a popular barramundi fishing spot.
We fill up on fuel and start heading back out of town, until we noticed one of Buster’s tyres appeared to be loosing pressure. Mark finds a screw, so we return into town just in time before the workers stop for the day. $65 later we once again drive out of town.
As it was getting late we pull in at Caranbirini Conservation Reserve for the night finishing a 328km journey for today.
