Our day started with a lovely walk to Jim Jim Falls but ended with us back in Darwin…just never know what can happen to change plans. Luckily we are ok.
The 8km, 4WD track into Jim Jim Falls was a slow 30mins with it being a narrow windy track with corrugations, sand, dips and creek crossings.
Unfortunately just as we approached the plunge pool and falls, I took a too big a step and slipped, getting a deep gash to my shin, that I could tell will need stitches. We discovered that we hadn’t packed our 1st aid kit so had to use socks and knee brace to keep the gash closed for our walk back. Some good samaritans gave us a couple of bandaids, which was great. So back we went 40mins walk, 30 mins 4wd track, 50km/1hr gravel road to the highway. Then decision - Katherine or Jabiru? We went to the later being closer.
But they said it was too deep for them and recommended Darwin as the better option for treatment. At 4:30pm/3 hours later we walked into the emergency department and waited … after a good clean out, 5 stitches and a tetanus injection we arrived at Paperbark stay at 10:30pm, ending our 370km long day.
The proprietors were very supportive and allowed us to park in their driveway for the night. The next morning they refused payment and generously let us fill Busters water tanks before leaving. We are very appreciative of their kindness.
So that ends our Kakadu explorations as hikes at the moment are off the books along with dips in the water…
