We enjoyed our stay at Cleaverville Beach camp but we must move on. We use the dump point before driving back out to Highway #1. Shortly after we turn off again at Roebourne and head towards Point Sansom (45km). We make our way to the ghost town of Cossack. It was established as a port in 1863 for pastoral and pearling industries. We follow the heritage trail, learning about the history and admire the restored buildings still standing.
We enjoy the views across the Indian Ocean at Tien Tsin lookout.
Read a few sad stories in the cemetery.
Then found Red Dog’s plaque near where he was buried.Wickham is a small mining town. We have a closer look at the Haul Truck and Loco. Check out the bird of prey.. looked like he had a sore leg.
Point Samson is a lovely small beach resort town with a relaxed vibe. There are some small sandy beaches and rock pools to explore. We stop to have a look at the old jetty. Unfortunately we are too early for lunch at the tavern.
We managed a photo of a Rainbow Bee-eater.Back on Highway #1 it’s another 220km to Port Hedland another busy mining port town. We quickly top up with fuel $1.75.
Then get to the free RV park stay and manage to find a spot and set up just before the footy starts.
Later we take a walk up to the lookout as the sun sets. Then grab a roast chook from Wollies for dinner.
