80 Mile Beach WA

Last week we had decided to break up our journey to Broome with a couple of caravan park stays. We picked 80 Mile Beach for 1 night ($52 unpowered site).

It was a a 172km drive on Great Northern Hwy #1. There was a constant flow of travellers (only the occasional cattle and fuel truck) on the road going both ways.

We stopped at Pardoo Roadhouse for breakfast in Buster.

Then it was 8km of corrugated dirt road to the caravan park.

Unfortunately our stay began with Buster’s toilet’s vent button coming loose and falling apart. We were wondering why the toilet was so unusually stinky inside. One section had fallen into the full cassette! Mark bravely went ‘fishing’ for it and managed to fix it. Hopefully it stays like that but we ordered 2 spares to be delivered to our niece in Broome to be on the safe side. No photos taken heheh.

Anyway after that drama, we were pleasantly surprised with our large grassy site.

We ventured on to part of the 220km beach (the longest in WA). The tide was up and as far as we could see on both sides were cars and people fishing. That is the main activity here as it is not recommended to go swimming due to stinging and bitey creatures in the water including the occasional crocodile!

So we kept to the sandy shore and did some shell collecting. The weather continues to be stunning, with 29°c days and cool 13°c nights.

On croc watch …

That evening we had happy hour with couples from Venus Bay Vic and Adelaide.

After a peaceful night we had an hours walk along the beach this time the other direction. Funny enough no one was fishing this morning as the tide was way out.

We then packed up for our drive to Barn Hill Beachside Station Stay for the next couple of nights…
