Today we drove into the Black Forest region of Germany.
We stopped in Balinger and had a stroll around. It was quite busy due to the market and a couple of weddings. Unfortunately other than the picturesque building on the waters edge there was not much else that was of interest to us.

We couldn’t resist another visit to Triberg in the cuckoo clock making area. The town centre had a large number of shops offering tourists cuckoo clocks, woodcarvings, souvenirs as well as Black Forest ham and kirsch. These are high quality craft products for the most part, although there is no shortage of plastic cuckoo clocks 'made in Taiwan'.

After a look around, we shared a slice of Black Forest cake.

Then off to find a shady spot for tonight … we end up in Schonwald, at an altitude of 1,000 meters, it is one of the highest villages in Germany. More than 250 years ago, the musical clock maker Franz Ketterer built the first Black Forest cuckoo clock here. An invention that has spread all over the world.
