Cotswold England UK

As the weather was quite wet and dreary we chose to have a driving day to get us closer to Newhaven for Friday. We drove 100km from Ironbridge to Chipping Campden, a classic Cotswold village, with golden coloured buildings and stone slate roofs. We parked in the street and walked past the Market Hall dating back to 1627.

Our stomachs were rumbling so we went in search of some food. We decided to have our first (for this trip)  Full English Breakfast £10each. Although the croissants looked quite delicious too.

Feeling well and truly full we continued our exploration of the village.

We eventually came to St James church, built in the 15th century.

We continue to travel through some lovely countryside and pretty villages.

We then pick a different National Trust property to visit, this one is the remains of a Roman Villa, Chedworth. There is evidence of a structure here from the 2nd century and by the 4th century it had become one of the most luxurious country houses in the whole of Romain Britain. Having been abandoned the remains were reclaimed by nature and were rediscovered in 1864 and ever since archaeologists are researching its past. We were able to admire the fine mosaics, the underfloor heating, bath houses and water shrine. As well as some treasures unearthed that are on display in a small museum.

We decide to keep going and travel another 73km to a spot on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Froxfield just next to a lock.

238km today..
