We watched the beautiful sunrise this morning at Baldy Tops, Quilpie.
Then set off early to drive west for just over 100km to Eromanga. It is said to be Australia’s furthest town from the sea. Secondly it is near where the 95 million year old skeletal remains of Australia’s largest dinosaur were found. We went to visit ($32 senior) the Natural History Museum that explained the evolution of the world in a 20min movie. Then we went into the shed where the bones are cleaned up. Along with Cooper they have discovered 7 other dinosaur and megafauna (eg Giant wombats) remains.Another aspect of discovery work involves microfossils that are the size of grains of sand.
The Cooper-Eromanga area has Australia’s most prolific onshore oil and gas supply. From here we drove another 200km to Cooper Creek near Windorah. We encountered a few obstacles.. emus, kangaroos, boor and of course cows. Even at one stage a whirly- twirly got us.We found a lovely spot next to the river and ended the day.
