Dirranbandi QLD to Goodooga NSW

This morning we headed south 120km to St.George where we passed through about 2 weeks ago and of course pass heaps of cotton fields.
We buy for fuel, do some shopping and get some info before continuing our journey to Dirranbandi.
We stopped to have a look at the Rail and River precinct which marks the end of the South West line.
In the park there was a memorial to the cavalry Charge of Beersheba in 1917.
There was a statue of Tom Dancy celebrating his win in 1910 of the famous foot race, the Stawell Gift.
The stone cotton bales are in memory of Des Stevenson, the pioneer of the cotton industry in 1980 at the famed Cubbie Station (the largest irrigated cotton farm in the southern hemisphere).
We spent a lovely night at the free camp just out of town on the banks of the Balonne Minor River.
The next morning we stopped in Hebel, the last town in Queensland before the NSW border. At the park we learnt some history of this tiny town.

The old pub is a popular stop.

We continued over the border to Goodooga, a one store town, that offers the weary traveller a free artesian pool and it’s very popular.
We manage to find a quiet spot in the back blocks and enjoy a couple of soaks and chats through out the day… we may even stay here another day.
