Boulieu-les-Annonay to Laviolle (Ardeche)

Travelled :130km
Length of stay: 1 night 16 April in Lavoille : parking  (free picnic spot, no amenities) 44.76311, 4.34142

Another beautiful start to the day. We headed off just after 9am. Had a lovely trip through the valley and villages. Destination Tain l’Hermitage on the Rhone River, which has world famous chocolate that we missed out on visiting.

We crossed the river to Tournon-Sur-Rhone, where we found a parking easily near the the Camp Ground and Quai. It is a beautiful town to visit with old cobbled streets, a Castle Museum,  the site of the first cable bridge and more.

It must be very popular as a large tourist barge had stopped there and there are a few camp grounds around. At the information office it was suggested that we take an inland road through the heart of the Ardeche to the Gorges. So off we went direction Lamastre then Le Cheylard then over the Mezilhac range (alt.1119m) where we saw snow along the roads again. Driving down the other side we decided to stop at a rest area at Laviolle situated next to a stream (no swimming or fishing due to being town water) but pretty.

No amenities offered apart from a country Auberges offering meals and accommodation. Had a walk around then tried to get on the internet, but there was no reception. So we got to know the Ford by going through the Guide Book I downloaded it in English from the internet as we only received an Italian one.
