Lake Oo France

Day 19,  Saturday 23 May 2026

We had a wonderful day in the Pyrenees, doing a lovely walk to Lake Oo and ending up at the Peyresourde Ski  resort with amazing views…

After our morning coffee, we set off from our peaceful spot on MOURTIS ski station down the mountain. We have some lovely views and drive through some villages .

Our first stop was at the dump point in Bagneres de Luchon and then a Lidl store to get some breakfast (we love their danishes) and a baguette for lunch for on our walk. As we have been to this town before we give it a miss as we want to get to the start of our walk to Lake Oo as early as possible. It’s not a long drive but by the time we arrived at the carpark at 9am, there was already a lot of cars.

Right from the start of the walk it was uphill all the way, some parts steeper than others.

This photo is of going down as I was too puffed to take it going up

View of valley we just came from

A big carpark and a few restaurants too

We arrived at the lake 1:10mins later and enjoyed the lovely scenery. The dam wall was built in 1921 for the hydroelectric system. The waterfall is one of the longest at 275m… which really makes it the place special along with the snow capped mountains in the background.

After a rest we decided to walk closer to the water fall. The 1km there took us 30mins with some rock scrambling but it was worth it. The misty breeze closer up helped refresh us before we made our way back down to Bluey. All up we Fitbit noted that we had walked 10km in just over 4hrs and we had spent another 1hour resting and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Cooling the feet before our journey back..

Back in Bluey we enjoyed a couple of drinks and some snacks before driving another 14km to the Peyresourde ski resort. As it happens we had stayed here in 2014. Luckily enough today being such a clear day, we are treated to an amazing view of the mountains.

Unfortunately the high altitude 1600m was giving us a headache so just after 7pm we chose a spot further down into the valley in a small village, Estarvielle @1000m alt. Around us are cows and we will be lulled to sleep by their bells tonight…

View of the ski resort as we leave.

75km today
