Victoria Wellington River

Travelled:151km Walhalla via Licola to Wellington River (Alpine National Park)
Stay: Muttonwood Campsite - free, toilets, fir pits (-37.531340 146.614536)

We began the morning with a walk up to the Walhalla Cricket Ground and read a few stories along the way. We had a bit of fun borrowing a bat and ball from the fridge locker...

Then it was time to hit the road and explore a part of the state we haven't been to beyond Licola, due to the area being a National park and we couldn't camp there with our dogs. The road heading North from Walhalla was unsuitable for caravans so we doubled back and travelled via Tyres and Heyfield.

After a brief stop for a few supplies in Heyfield we continued on to Licola through some beautiful countryside and valley.

The 10km drive from Licola to the end of 13 campsites on the Wellington River in the Alpine National Park was bitumen. Some of the tracks into the campsites where a bit rough but passable.

After investigating some sites along the way we found a lovely spot at Muttonwood where we settled in for a couple nights.

We walked up further along the road and popped in to have a look at some of the other campsites. We thought Cockatoo Campsite had the best river access.
