Melville Caves VIC Australia

Stay: Melville Caves Campground in Kooyroo State Park- free with toilets GPS -36.601121, 143.698521

We then drove another 30 mins to a Melville Caves camp in Kooyroo State Park. It lies atop a spectacular rocky mountain with huge boulders that form caves or cavities. It was named after the bushranger, Captain Melville, who hid here and used the lookouts to spy on passing coaches and escorts coming from the nearby goldfields. It’s our 4th time here and obviously a favourite spot for us. We originally decided on staying here due to the 25mm of rain predicted (but never eventuated), as the road in is bitumen. As we managed to get a nice level spot and some nice red gum left here we ended up spending both Friday and Saturday night.
Scones cooked in the camp oven is a favourite.
We walked out to the cave lookout.
We also went to McLeod's and Southern Lookouts to admire the views (and for a bit of much needed exercise).
