WA Nullarbor, Bunda Cliffs to Tcharkulda Rock SA

Travelled: 345km Via WA/SA border to Bunda Cliffs (camp 2/ -31.584062, 130.390864), 535km via Ceduna check point to Tcharkulda Rock SA

Tuesday morning we set off early from Mundura WA to continue our easterly journey towards the WA/SA border. We stopped to have breakfast at Mundrabilla. We filled up on fuel as it is the cheapest on the WA side of the Nullarbor. We then played another hole of golf.

Our new friends from Boort we met in the Norseman ‘refugee camp’, Neville and Jillian, sent us an SMS to confirm that there was no SA border check point at Bordertown. So feeling very happy about this we made our way to Eucla and played another hole of golf.
Someone had fun changing this sign…

We then crossed the border.

We popped in again at a couple of lookouts to admire the view of the Bunda Cliffs.
Didn’t see one of these unfortunately
We saw some big loads though

We decided to return to the spot we stayed here on the way west 6 weeks ago at wikicamps camp #2.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Nev & Jill parked up here too. So we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon and evening together, and played Finska for a bit of fun.

We then spent another day together on the cliffs waiting for SA to change their border restrictions on Thursday. We even saw some whales..finally.

After a bit of a windy night we set off from the cliffs to the Nullarbor Roadhouse. After breakfast we played our last golf hole (10 /18 played in total) accompanied with Nev & Jill. We couldn’t believe our eyes when a crow swooped down and picked up Marks ball then flew away with it…. Is that what you would call a birdie ?

We then enjoyed a hot 5min/$1 shower. By then the news was through…we could enter SA! So off we went…. we had a quick stop for lunch in Penong and then drove another 70km to the Ceduna check point. We weren’t too sure how we would go as we had never received a permit. However the friendly police officer said ‘ no worries I will process your permits now’. He gave us the thumbs up and when we asked what our options were; it was to either drive through SA in 72hours or have a Covid test on 1,5 & 13th day. Apparently on Sunday the restrictions will be lifted all together so we aren’t too sure if it’s all mute anyway….keep posted! Anyway if we decide to get tested it has to be done in Port Augusta which we would never get to tonight. So we fill up on fuel and replenish the cupboards before we drove on heading East on the A1, destination Tcharkulda Rock 4km from Minnipa. We eventually arrive at 5:30pm and low and behold we spot Nev and Jill and after dinner we enjoy a chat.
