Norseman to Mundura WA

Travelled: 531 km from Norseman to Madura Pass Lookout (Nullarbor) Western Australia

We spend 3 nights at the RV park in Norseman as we wait for our SA permits to be approved.

We went for a drive to Lake Cohan.

Then we continued along the Hyden Road stopping at the Gemfields and Woodlands.
Unfortunately the bush has been burnt out but the gravel road was good.

We went for a walk next to the train line and watched 160 carriages with 3 locomotives go past!

On Sunday some decided to make their way to the SA WA border, with and without finalised approvals. We wait one more day before taking on the journey ourselves. We fill up with fuel, food and water, have a hot shower using our pre purchased tokens and take off. We stop for breakfast at Kevin Lanceley Rest Stop. Which has a memorial for a supervisor for the construction for part of the Nullarbor road…we liked his motto “Go Hard or Go Home”. 90 mins later we stopped at Balladonia (look at our westerly trip for more info) to play a hole of the Nullarbor Golf Links.

Further on we had lunch at the Caiguna Blow Hole. Surprisingly it was quite interesting that air was actually coming out of this hole…
Wow…we thought it was a long drive … but walking it is an amazing effort

We play another golf hole at Cocklebiddy.

We were just commenting that we haven’t seen anyone else playing this unique golf course and as we return to Traky, low and behold, someone stops to play. We were greeted by 2 very friendly ladies who we recognised as being competitors on the Australian Amazing Race as well as players in the WAFL (Women’s Australian Football League). We couldn’t help ourselves and asked for a selfie.

They told us that the actual border checks were getting done at Ceduna not Eucla which gives us extra time as we wait for our permits or SA change their restrictions (possibly Thursday). Feeling boyd by this news we decide to drive a little longer to Madura and find a nice spot at the Pass Lookout.

  1. Hi M & M...looks like you're having good weather so far for your Nullarbor crossing, long may it continue! Three weeks ago we passed a walker heading south on the Coolgardie-Norseman Road (he was running at the time and the rain was bucketing down). Your walker looks like the same man so we're pleased to see he's still on the road and currently enjoying better weather, it must be tough going. Hope all goes well for you with SA permits and for the rest of your journey. Stay safe...Cheers, M & J.
