Cradle Mountain National Park 2 Tasmania

This morning the clouds were low and it was a slow start for the National Park with no one in a real hurry to begin their walks.

Mark’s knee was feeling the effects of yesterday’s effort so we decided to do a few of the shorter walks available from the Ranger Station which was only a short trip in the shuttle bus from the visitor centre.

We had a look inside the interpretation centre with lots of historical information and on the fauna and flora in the park.

From here we followed a board walk through a quaint rainforest with Pencil Pines and Myrtle trees.

There was also a lovely little waterfall.

We continued on into the Enchanted Forest with the path following the river up one side and then down the other side.

There was a few tunnels for the kids with paintings depicting the plants and animals here.

Unfortunately the wombats have been elusive. They like to eat this coral fern and we saw evidence that they are around but no sightings for us.

We did spot some wallabies.

At the end of the walk we followed the signs to the King Billy walk which, as the name suggests, we saw lots of very old King Billy pine trees.

That’s all Mark could manage so we got the shuttle bus back to Buster.

We set the gps for Leven Canyon but ended up stopping at Lake Barrington. A popular boating and fishing area.

The upside is that we had time to cook the pork roast.

43km today
