Today we ventured up along the Central Plateau before descending down into the Golden Valley.
On the southern shore of the Great Lake is Miena, a well serviced fishing village.
The lake is part of the hydro. Unfortunately the lookout for the three walls dam wall was closed.
As we drove along the western side of the lake there are plenty of fishing shacks. We met an owner of one and at the moment they are not happy about land taxes and a proposed dirt bike track. As we ascend up to the plateau we stop at a lookout.
We reached an altitude of 1210m and pass Liawenee, known as the coldest place in Tasmania. We were told that the people who are to go to Antartica come here to acclimatise before their journey!
From here we descended in the Golden Valley and onto Deloraine. We stopped at the dump point and did some shopping.
We continued on to the small rural town of Chudleigh. They offer $5 pn camping at the Showgrounds. They have held an annual show here in February since 1889. The wood chopping logs were still up.
Across the road was the Melita Honey Farm which was a delight to visit. There were so many different types of honey which we could taste. There were fruit flavoured ones as well as nuts, chocolate, chilli the list goes on. We could also view the inside of a working beehive behind glass. Along with extensive information about bees and their hives. Of course we had to taste their honey flavoured icecream too. The shop sold many honey and bee inspired products.
Later at 5pm the television came out for the Essendon and Geelong pre season match.
