Narawntapu NP Tasmania

As we left Latrobe the sign made us realise that the distances aren’t huge between towns.

Along the way we saw our first poppy field. Tasmania is the worlds largest producer of licit alkaloid material (morphine, thebaine and codeine), supplying almost half of the world’s demand.

We also cross the famous Franklin River that was saved from being dammed by one of the most significant environmental campaigns in Australian history.

It was only 38km from Latrobe to our next destination, Narawntapu National Park.  We called in at the visitors centre. We had purchased our entry pass on the ferry. The seniors annual pass at $38 is great value.

We drove a bit further to find a campsite at Bakers Point at $13 per site.

We spent they day enjoying a few walks along the waters edge.

We also encountered some local wild life. We think this little fellow is either a Tasmanian Pademelon or a Bennett’s Wallaby.

Mark did a quick clean up around our site..
After a peaceful night we drove to carpark #1 and followed the track to Archers Knob. The walk is classified as one of 60 Great Short Walks of Tasmania. We were not disappointed as we strolled through some beautiful coastal vegetation including paperbark swamp.

We zigzagged 114m alt to the top with some amazing views of Bakers Beach, Springlawn and beyond.

Once back off the knob we took the track along the beach back to Buster. The end of our 6km 2 hour trek.

We were assured that Bowens Road was a reasonable dirt track to take to our next destination. We made it to the York Town turn off with no issues and continued north to Greens Beach. As the sun was shining, holiday makers were enjoying the warmer weather.

We backed tracked to a free spot on Gardens Island and settled in for the rest of the day with views across to George Town.

View of St.George ..

Only saw one ship go past..
It was a beautiful evening..

49km trip today.
