Yorke Peninsula SA

Travelled: 570km/7 days from Burra to Port Broughton and around the Yorke Peninsula to Ardrossan.

We drove from Burra to Clare and did some shopping before stopping in a free spot in a small village of Koolunga. We had a couple of beers at the pub and called it day.
Then we continued to Port Broughton. A very attractive holiday town on the Yorke Peninsula with its Norfolk Pines and impressive pub. The once 1245 foot long jetty played an important role for the district with its tram enabling goods to be loaded on to Ketches that carried it to larger windjammers capable of 5200 tons of wheat.
Not far south was fond a lovely spot near Tickera for the night.
Wallaroo is an important deep water port town and historically for windjammers and copper. We enjoyed our morning walk along the beach and the jetty that is nearly a kilometre long.
With fond memories of our previous visit, we had to stop in Moonta for their famous Cornish pastie. We spent the night in a free spot known as The Gap.The next day we drove through Port Victoria and then onto Port Rickaby where we stayed at the caravan park. The weather had turned windy and cold.
We were a bit naughty and ignored the 'No Camping Sign' in the carpark at Corny Point Lighthouse, built in 1882.  The coastal views were amazing and no one moved us on.
We did a bit of driving today across the 'toes' of the Peninsula to Marion Bay, then to Foul Bay and Port Moorowie.
We ended up in the small campground in Port Julia.
Someone felt artistic...
The next morning we had an early start and visited Ardrossan and walked along the jetty. It is an important port on the Peninsula with its 1000m jetty and bulk grain storage facilities.
