Australia Sheepyard Flats

We were looking forward to a week camping with friends at Sheepyard Flats on the Howqua River just out of Mansfield. We had a pit stop in Yea at the old railway station.
We were lucky enough to get our favourite spot, although there are plenty to choose from..
Its always important to have a good wood pile.

We enjoyed our tasty meals cooked over a fire in the camp oven and hot plate.
The scones were delicious cooked in the camp oven.

Happy hour was popular.Billy on the boil with some jaffles for lunch.
We walked off some of the calories exploring and learning about the history of the surrounding area.
It was a 3km return Howqua Hills Historic Walk to Fry’s Flat with its self guided interpretive panels explaining how they looked for Gold and built a water race.
The opening of the man made tunnel water race.

We picked lots of blackberries.
Life at camp was nice and easy. It was fun playing the French game of Pallets, boules and badmington.

Bush showers and dips in the river were refreshing. A spot of fishing (no nibbles) was called for until a snake joined us.

We enjoyed the company of many birds and kangaroos...
PS we were lucky to get away as soon we were in lockdown due to Covid-19
